Andrew V. FigoneMay 11, 1930-Nov. 24, 2014Resident of San JoseAndrew Figone was a devoted follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by way of his Catholic faith, and that's how he wanted to be remembered.Andy was born in San Luis Obispo May 11, 1930. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to San Jose: and except during his service in the military, that's where Andy lived the rest of his life, passing away in the family home on November 24, 2014.Andy attended Lowell Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and San Jose High School. After that, Andy worked for a short time as a warehouseman at the Richmond Chase Cannery in downtown San Jose. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served honorably for 3 years.Upon his discharge from the Marines, Andy went back to Richmond Chase and retired as a manager 35 years later when the cannery closed down.Andy spent the next 20 years serving his beloved cousins, Alma Ferrari and Sontina Armanino, who lived nearby and needed his help with their everyday personal business matters. By 2007, each of them had passed away and Andy fully retired.Andy loved: His Lord; His country; His family; His numerous dogs and cats over the years; The opera; and Home-cooked Italian food.Andy lived a quiet, humble life and all who knew him would agree, he had a heart as big as Texas. Andy was a wonderful human being-a good guy.Toward the end, Andy wanted only two things: To go to heaven; and To go from home.Andy got his second wish, and I'm confident he got his first.I'll close now with a word from the Bible, Paul's letter to the Corinthians, Chapter 4, Verses 16 through 18."That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirts are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don't look at our troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on the things that cannot be seen. For the things we can see now will be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever."Amen.
