Andrew Jose LuceroAug. 26, 1946 ~ Feb. 5, 2015Resident of San JoseAndrew (Andy) Jose Lucero, son of the late Jose and Doris Lucero was born in San Francisco and moved to San Jose at age 14. He voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam at Binh Thui Air Base. Upon returning to San Jose, he dedicated himself to his family, community services and activism. Andy learned the importance of hard work from his maternal grandfather who helped construct the Golden Gate Bridge and his father a lifelong Teamster. He deeply cherished his parents, throughout his life. Andy and his former wife Maria Fuentes were blessed with two beautiful children. His daughter Miel (Lucero) Manivanh, his son Andres Lucero, and his granddaughter Isabella Lucero were his greatest love and joy. Andy coached Andres's football and soccer teams, inspiring and developing every player. Andy was the most amazing grandfather to Isabella, enjoying opportunities to bring her happiness while teaching her the importance of education and modeling how to give generously. Andy was thrilled to walk Miel down the aisle in her marriage to his son-in-law Loun Manivahn. Throughout his life, Andy was involved in politics, affecting progressive change throughout San Jose. In the Chicano Movement he advocated against social injustice. He was the first co-director of the Mayfair Community Center and with "Teatro" groups educated the community on their rights and political power. Andy is also survived by three sisters and brother in laws, seven nephews and four nieces and eight great nieces and nephews, and cherished uncles, aunts and cousins. He will be remembers by his family and many friends for his unfailing love, humor and joy, and his irrepressible wit and keen intelligence. Feb. 17: Blessing at 9:30 am at Chapel of Flowers, and Military Burial Ceremony at 12:30 pm at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 30253 West McCabe Road, Santa Nella 95322, followed by a Reception at 3:00 to 6:00 pm at CHACHO's Restaurant 87 E. San Fernando St. San Jose.
