VASQUEZ, Arturo Tinoco-- 58, Entered into eternity October 31, 2002 in San Francisco. Beloved son of Charles N. and the late Louise Vasquez. Loving partner of Sandra Malcolm. Survived by daughter, Nicole, and grandson, Nicholas. Loving brother of Charles Jr. Vasquez, Sammy Vasquez, Evelyn Freeman, Richard T. Vasquez, Phyllis Wright, and Daniel Vasquez. Cherished brother-in-law of Alicia Vasquez, Debbie Vasquez, Daniel Freeman, Leif Herald, Russ Wright and Anne Louise Vasquez. Also survived by five nieces, seven nephews, a grandniece and grandnephew.Attended Samuel Ayer High School in Milpitas, where he was an accomplished track athlete and saxophonist. Joined the U.S. Navy in 1962, where he served as a medical corpsman and became a gold medallist boxing champion. In the late 1960s, he started a lifetime commitment to grassroots Chicano political and social causes, including education, low-income housing, employment, child welfare, substance abuse and voter's rights.Other endeavors included becoming a member and representative for the Unitarian Church of San Jose. He also was an ardent supporter of the United Farmworkers movement. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and all of those whose lives he inspired. Especially, we will miss his patient ear.
