COGAR, Charles W., Jr. - "Charlie" passed away peacefully at his home this past week of heart failure. He had attended both San Jose State University and the San Francisco Art Institute. Charlie had been for many years an executive in the international shipping industry and traveled to the Far East many times. He was especially proud of having passed a rigorous examination, equivalent to the State Bar, which certified him to present transportation law cases to the Federal Interstate Commerce Commission. Charlie was extremely well read on a bewildering range of subjects, chiefly history and all maritime subjects. He had the gift of diving into a pool of diverse persons in any setting and making friends. Charlie had many good and interesting friends who sought his company over the years. Music from all over the world was a particular passion for Charlie and he had a natural ear which enabled him to learn to play a large number of stringed instruments. Charlie was the son of the late Charles W. Cogar, M.D. and his wife Mary of San Jose. His siblings are Peter of San Jose, Tom of Boulder Creek, Mary Melton of San Jose and Amy Roderick of Oregon. Private services have been held. CHAPEL OF FLOWERS 408-294-9663
