Charles W. "Chuck" Gallup Sr., PhDResident of San JoseProud Korean War veteran and entrepreneur, died on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the age of 80. Born on October 27, 1931 in Danville, IL, Chuck spent most of hischildhood in San Francisco, CA. He attended high school in Pasco, WA, where he excelled as an athlete and boxer. In 1950, Chuck enlisted in the US Army and spent three years as an infantry scout in the Korean War. After his return, he earned a BS in Secondary Education at Arkansas State Teachers College and later in life acquired MS and Doctoral degrees. In the '60s and '70s, while working at Will Ross/Searle, Chuck was instrumental in designing many patented medical and textile products. He founded Western Textiles (West-Tex) in mid-1970 and successfully ran the company until he retired in the late 1990's. Chuck was a lover of fly fishing and a fervent member of the San Jose and Palo Alto Elks lodges. He was a passionate believer in assisting disabled veterans and was happiest when he could help veterans take part in activities with the Elks. Chuck is survived by his children Charles Jr. "Bill", Hazel "Kathi" Evans, Jennings "Corky", David (Shannon) Patterson and Susan (Bryan) Patterson, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and brother Richard (Joyce) Bagley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Florence in February 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Blind Center. Friends are invited to the viewing on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 9:30 am with service to follow at 10:00 am at Chapel of Flowers.
