Danny McCullough

May 8, 1958 — November 5, 2024

San Jose, California

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Danny Attwood McCullough, 66, of San Jose, California, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Danny was born on May 8, 1958, in Ocala, Florida, to Ben McCullough and Aldean Jackson.

Danny experienced a rich and adventurous upbringing as the child of military parents, living in diverse locations such as San Diego, California; Wichita Falls, Texas; Biloxi, Mississippi; Tokyo, Japan; Sacramento, California; and San Jose, California. In adulthood, he called San Jose, Stockton, and Milpitas, California, home.

During his youth in Japan, Danny excelled as a baseball pitcher and later pursued football and music at Overfelt High School in San Jose, where he played the trumpet.

After graduating in 1976, Danny studied Arnis martial arts in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He went on to work as a tractor-trailer driver and spent many years employed at a metal manufacturing company.

Danny married Joi Murphy in San Jose, California, and they had one son, Danny Jr. Though divorced, he remained a loving father and family man. He cherished spending time with loved ones at family dinners, birthday celebrations, and trips to destinations like Las Vegas and Hawaii.

Danny was known for his thoughtful and frequent calls to family and friends, often calling his beloved mother, Aldean, daily and affectionately referring to her as "mamasan." His love for life extended to his favorite football team, the Raiders, his joy of dancing, and his passion for music and playing his harmonica. Danny played the trumpet in a band called "Just Us," enjoyed listening to "Entourage the Band," and sang gospel music in church and quartets. He was also an avid fan of Western movies and television shows.

Danny’s generosity and willingness to help others were hallmarks of his character. He often volunteered at church and was known for his warm sense of humor, infectious laugh, and favorite phrase: “You got to dig it to dig it!”

Danny leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his son, Danny Jr.; grandsons, Brandon and Ryan; his longtime companion, Lora Stanford, and her family; his mother, Aldean McCullough; siblings, Ronald (Charles) Derrick (Rochelle), Xavier (Maxine) and Yvette, James (Yvette) Houston, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and close friends.

We will forever miss Danny’s vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to our lives.

In Appreciation

The family thanks you for all the calls, texts, prayers, etc. Danny would want us to say, 'thank you all for loving him.' "Dig it"
