Hazel L. SarmentoResident of SacramentoHazel Lillian Sarmento (Nunes), 95, passed away April 17, 2016, in Sacramento, CA. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Edwin Sarmento, of Yuba City, CA. Visitation and Vigil will be 5-7pm with a Rosary at 7p.m. - held at Geo L Klumpp-Chapel of Flowers in Sacramento on April 25, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Resurrection in Sunnyvale, CA on April 26, 2012, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos, CA. Hazel was born in San Jose, CA., to Joseph and Minnie Nunes on November 12, 1920. She graduated from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale and married Edwin Sarmento on Sept 13, 1940. They made their home in Sunnyvale until 1959, when they moved to Yuba City to continue ranching. She and Ed celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2001. Hazel was a homemaker - she enjoyed reading, working in her large garden and especially spending time with her family. She was a longtime member of Saint Isadore Catholic Church in Yuba City.Hazel is survived by her sister, Gladys Ferioli, of Sunnyvale, her daughter, Joyce Mills, of Sacramento, four sons, Edwin Jr., of Stockton, Gary, of Alamo, Dennis, of Virginia (formerly of Yuba City), and Kevin, of San Francisco, as well as eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Sutter Hospice for their support in her final days.
