He passed peacefully surrounded by his beloved family at the Veteran's hospital, in Palo Alto, CA, on July 28, 2013, at 7:05 PM. Served 26 years in United States Air Force, a veteran who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Survived by his children, Jacinta (Dave Glenn) Garrido Cruz of Birmingham, Alabama; John Joseph (Natalie), Pittsburgh, PA., AnnaMarie Cruz (Fiancé Frank Cazeres) & Theresa Cruz (Peter) Mitchell of San Jose, CA; Timothy James (Jeanne) of Las Vegas, NV.; Desiree Hope Cruz of Hawthorne, CA; his former wife Vicky Manabusan Elsas, 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; Brother Fermin (Susana) Cruz, Sr., and sisters Maria Cruz Divine, Virginia (Jose) Sanchez from Chula Vista, CA., sister-in-law Chong Cruz, from Las Vegas, NV., Brother-in-law Joaquin "Kin" Nangauta of Malesso, Guam, numerous beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles Godchildren, friends, and his best friend Toby. Predeceased by daughter Brenda Cruz Stewart Collins, son, Matthew Andrew Cruz, (father) Juan Santiago Cruz, (mother) Maria Meno Cruz, Brothers José, José and Francisco Cruz, sister Ana Nangauta, and brother n law James D. Divine. Also affectionately known as "Johnny Dodu", His dedication and passion for military tracking systems allowed him to travel the world several times. During his retirement years he helped many veterans apply for VA benefits. He was a proud member of The National Organization of Chamorro Veterans in America, Coordinator for the San Jose Chapter. A lifetime member of Merizo Guam Club of San Diego, CA. He was dedicated father, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him and loved to be of service to anyone. He will truly be missed. A private viewing on Friday August 9, 2013 from 11:00am - 1:00pm. A public viewing 1:00pm- 3:30pm. (Veteran Tribute by NOCVA), at the Chapel of Flowers 990 S. 2nd Street San Jose, CA 95112. He will be taken to St. John Vianny Catholic Church by 5:00 for a rosary, family viewing and mass at 4600 Hyland Ave San Jose, CA 95127. Reception to follow. Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at Spring Valley Bible Church, Saturday 8/10/13 at 9:00am - 1:00pm. 220 S. Main Street. Reception to follow. He will be cremated and buried at a later date. The family would like to thank all family and friends for their prayers, support and monetary donations.
