Marit McCreadyNov. 1, 1930 - April 25, 2015Resident of San JoseMarit McCready, a 46 year resident of San Jose, California, passed away April 25, 2015 at the age of 84. Marit was born November 1, 1930 to Hjalmar and Aslaug Helland in Soerfold, Norway. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband of 54 years, John Lyle McCready. She is survived by her children, Steven of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Susan of Arlington, Virginia, and Robert of Saratoga, California; her brother, Thor Helland and his family of Oslo, Norway; and her granddaughter, Carissa DeMilte of San Jose, California.Marit grew up on the family farm at the edge of a fjord in northern Norway. She completed her secondary education and taught school for a year in the area. As a young woman, she moved to Oslo where she completed her education. It was while living in Oslo and working as a flight attendant that she met and married Lyle, an American then living and working overseas, in 1958. In their early years together, they moved several times with their growing family between the US and Europe before settling in San Jose in December 1968, where they remained. During her years in San Jose, she enjoyed her work as a legal secretary. They never lost their love of traveling and saw much of the world in their years together. She loved to cook and took great delight in entertaining family and friends in her home at every opportunity.A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, May 11, 2015 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 729 Morse Street, San Jose, California. Interment in Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara will follow the service.
