Peter Van Dam08/18/1951 - 04/09/13Resident of San JoseWM. PETER VAN DAM, 61, died peacefully at home in San Jose on April 9, 2013. He managed the last year of lung cancer with an abundance of grace and humor. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he forged a new life in San Jose in 1980 with the love and support of the NA/AA fellowship, transforming himself from living in his truck to becoming a journeyman carpenter, licensed contractor, real estate agent and real estate broker with a very decent golf game and constantly restoring his Victorian house. Pete credited his sustained success and 28 years of sobriety to "Love and Service," that he practiced diligently with support and encouragement for those afflicted with addiction. As a member of the Lions Club, he treasured the opportunities to bring eyeglasses to rural villagers in Mexico. He loved his life and cherished all the people in it, including his family, neighbors and many friends within and without the real estate, AA/NA and Lions communities. Pete's life will be celebrated Saturday May 4, 2013 at 2pm at the Chapel of Flowers, 900 S. 2nd St., San Jose. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alano Club of San Jose or San Jose - Campbell Lions Club.
