R. Duane MelottAug. 16, 1935 – Nov. 17, 2014Resident of San JoseDuane was born in Long Beach, CA, the oldest of three children, to Madge and Raymond Melott. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lee Angela, sons Mark and Gary, daughter-in-law, Debbie, grandson, Matthew, granddaughters Samantha and Allie Kimber, and great grandson, Ira Speakman. Duane was a printer in the Santa Clara Valley for over 40 years and loved the art and craft of his trade. He loved the Sierras, especially Yosemite, where he camped and backpacked with his family for many years. He loved Scouting, earned his Eagle Scout Award in the early 1950's, and served as Scout Master when his sons were Scouts. He was a private pilot, loved everything about airplanes and flying, and was a past president of the Santa Clara County Airman's Association. Duane loved his "cabin in the woods" on Sonora Pass, enjoying many friendships and cutting fire wood to his heart's delight. He also loved the San Francisco Giants and was always an avid fan. A Memorial Service to celebrate Duane's life will be held Thursday, December 4, 11:00 A.M., at the Masonic Temple, 2500 Masonic Dr., San Jose. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
