Roy Daniel Ruiz, 101, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023. He was born on April 20, 1921 to Ventura and Mercedes Ruiz. He was raised in San Jose and at the age of 21 he enlisted in the Army Airforce and then served in WWII, first as a medic, then as an aerial gunner on a B24 bomber. Roy returned home after the war and enrolled in barber college in Los Angeles. He began cutting hair and eventually opened his own barbershop with his brother Al. The barber shop brought him much joy and he loved talking, telling jokes, and celebrating life with his customers and fellow barbers. He continued to cut hair in his shop through the age of 90. Roy met Ruth and they married in September of 1948. During their 74 years of marriage, they raised 5 children, Roy, Edward, Arthur, Andrew, and Penny. He had many hobbies including golf, fishing, camping, and watching his beloved 49ers and San Francisco Giants. He also enjoyed barbecuing and entertaining his large family and many friends. He was quick to greet all with a smile and a plate of food. Roy was a kind and generous man who loved life and wanted happiness for all. He will truly be missed by those who are blessed to have him as a part of their memories.Roy is preceded in death by his father, Ventura, mother, Mercedes, brother, Al, sister, Carrie, and daughter, Penny. He is survived by his wife Ruth, and sons, Roy (Debra), Edward (Linda), Arthur, and Andrew, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.Services for Roy will be held on April 11th at 11:30 am at Chapel of Flowers followed by a Celebration of Life at The Drying Shed.
