Ruth Rainie Condit

Ruth Rainie Condit 81, well known artist and teacher, died at home on October 22, 2004. Born in Iowa, Nov. 3, 1922. Moved to California in 1944, where she worked on Tweety Bird and other cartoons for Columbia Pictures Screen Gem Studio. She attended several colleges, including San Francisco and San Jose State Universities. By the early 1950s Ruth had developed into a contemporary artist, known for her vibrant abstractions. Ruth is perhaps best remembered as a teacher. She taught art classes for adults and children in private schools, Villa Montalvo and at her studio-workshop in Saratoga. For over thirty years, she inspired students, and the children of former students, to express themselves through art. An awarding winning artist, Ruth exhibited regularly with such groups as Saratoga Contemporary Artists, Los Gatos Art League and the Triton Museum. She was an active member of the Pen Women's Association. Ruth is survived by her husband of 25 years, Maurice Condit and children Jo (George) Rodgers, Christine (Thomas) Balch and Brian (Kelly) Rainie; grandchildren Heather (Robert) McCaslin, Heidi (Dave) Saifi, Hailey (Mark) Kerzich, Andrea and Robert Balch, and nine great-grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her brother Roland (Kaaren) Brummer and sisters Ramona (George) Zediker, Rosena Jonas and Alice Armstrong. Visitation Wednesday 10/27, 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Rosary 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of Flowers, 900 South Second Street, San Jose. Funeral services Thursday, 10/28 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Saratoga.
