Sonya Joy English (Sunny) Hunter11/10/35-12/26/12resident of San JoseBorn in Hancock, New York 77 years ago, Sunny passed peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. Sunny was very active in the community. She belonged to the Republican Party Club, the bridge club, and the red hat ladies club. She enjoyed ballroom dancing with close friends; she also enjoyed yoga, bingo, crossword puzzles, and casinos. Sunny loved to travel; she traveled to many places around the world, one of her favorite ways to travel was taking cruises. Sunny was a graduate of Hancock Central School (1953), Syracuse University (1956) where she earned a degree in nursing. After graduating from Syracuse she finished her education earning a master degree at the University of San Francisco (1976). Sunny had a long and rewarding career in nursing with over forty years in the labor and delivery department in two different hospitals. During her career in nursing she also assisted in the delivery of four of her own grandchildren. Sunny was married to the late Thomas Leroy Hunter for over twenty five years. She is survived by her brother Harvey English Jr. (Buzz), her companion Burt Gedryn of over ten years, and her four children Pamela Hunter Chase, Karen Hunter Hayes, Sherry Hunter Fisher, and Thomas Todd Hunter. Sunny also has six granddaughters, two grandsons, and four great grandchildren. Sunny was very much loved and will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.Sunny will have a service in San Jose, Ca. on Saturday Jan 5th at 5 o'clock pm. The viewing will be from 3-9pm at the Chapel of Flowers located at 900 South Second St. San Jose Ca. 95112. Reception to follow. Following this service Sunny will be moved to Hancock New York for her final resting place with her family. The service in Hancock will be Friday Jan 11th at 1:00pm at Henderson Biebekapt Funeral Parlor 29 East Main Street Hancock, New York 13783.
