Sophie Antes Birk

Sophie Antes BirkSep. 9, 1908- Nov. 11, 2016Resident of San JoseA resident of Willow Glen for 77 years. Sophie was born at the Hayes Mansion to Frank and Mary Antes. She attended the old Franklin School, graduated from Notre Dame High School and then attended Heald's Business College. Shortly thereafter, she began her career with the telephone company. In 1934 she married Gerald Birk and together they raised their two children, Marcelyn and Ronald. Sophie belonged to many groups, both social and philanthropic, but was most proud of being the oldest member of the Pioneers of At&T. During her lifetime Sophie made many friends of all ages through bridge, bowling and travel. She outlived most of them, but had many escapades to remember. In addition to her son and daughter, Sophie leaves behind four grandchildren: Stephen, Darren and Stephanie Carroll and Gerald Birk and two great grandchildren Chase and Ellie Birk.A rosary will be held on 11/21/2016 at 7:00pm at Chapel of Flowers.
