Vernon Maggi, IIIResident of San Jose May 19, 1949-Jan. 10, 2011Vernon lost his life to cancer on Monday at the age of 61. Vernon was born in San Jose where, except for a few years, he spent his life. He is survived by sons, Richard (Spike), Vernon III (Joe), daughter Lorraine (Tootie), their spouses, 5 grandchildren, brother James, sisters Linda and Sandra, aunts, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Vernon served in the Army as a medic in Germany from 1967-71. Known for his mastery of trivia, an excellent pool player and gardener, he collected antiques and oddities, loved science, history and music. An auto worker and roofer, later in life he worked in his mother's antique store. He was a generous friend to many.A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Flowers, 900 S. Second St., San Jose.
